First Grade

Welcome to First Grade! In first grade, students build a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. They learn important phonics skills, comprehension strategies, and develop a love for reading a variety of texts. Writing comes alive as students create stories, informational pieces, and opinion writing. In math, students strengthen number sense, explore place value, and practice addition and subtraction strategies. Science and social studies give students the chance to explore the world around them by asking questions, making observations, and learning about communities, animals, and the environment. Throughout the year, students also grow in problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration, building the skills they need to be successful learners.
