Fifth Grade

Welcome to Fifth Grade!

In fifth grade we are preparing students to leave elementary school and head to middle school.  We are changing classes for math and language arts to get students accustomed to taking materials with them to another class and having more than one teacher.  In math, we cover many topics including multiplication, division, manipulating fractions, and decimals.  In science we study matter, ecosystems, and earth's interactive systems.  We incorporate use of the textbook with videos and hands on experiments.  Our social studies curriculum begins with the westward expansion following the Civil War and leads us through current day events.  Our language arts curriculum focuses on comprehension of narrative and expository texts. We write narrative stories, persuasive pieces, and informational pieces.
